Safety Day!

Daily Question: Do you know what safety means?

Toys: Cars and Street rug, train table, Skee-ball game.

Snack: Twinkies, clementines, and Cheez-its.

I loved how the children worked together to clean up all on their own today today! (That is a heavy rug!)

S the snake slithers side to side across the sand. "S s s," it says as it slithers. A sailor on the shore warns the snake to put on sunburn to avoid being scorched. S the snake slithers to the shore. (It was fun to remember our trip to the museum and lesson on Reptiles). How does a snake move without arms or legs?)

Sand Art: It was fun to color our snake, listen to the S story and then practice our "s" sounds as we glued sand on the letter S.

Snacks and Stories: Inside we ate our snack, Twinkies, Cheez-its, and Clementine segments while we listened to S stories like Audrey Wood's Silly Sally. This made us laugh! We also sand a S song about New Shoes, "Preston has red shoes, new shoes, red shoes. Preston has red shoes on today!" Before coming in today the boys were talking about their new shoes. (We sang the shoes song about everyone's shoes--new or not.)

It was fun to do a quick shout out review of our color posters!

Circle Time: "What is safety?" "Has your mom or dad ever said, 'Be safe!'?" Susie said, "It means--be careful!" Hugh piped in, "The short word is safe--'stay safe!'" We talked about Safety Tips: Stop, Look and Listen before crossing the street. Cross at a cross walk. If you are lost, what do you do? Stay put! Look for a mother with a baby or children or a person in a uniform. Go up to them and ask them to help you. Tell them your full name* (we practiced this), phone number*, parent's names*, and address*. Wear your seat belt. Ask permission to go somewhere.

* It is felt that by five years, children can learn and memorize these things.
Please practice these things at home.
Our Silly S Words: sit, see, silly, Sally, Susie, sun, snow, ski, story, street, shoes, so some, seed, sand, and spy.

Slide!
Sun, scooter, and snow!
